Vendor Affinity Program Spotlight: Balise Wholesale Parts

by Katie Agnello

As a proud fourth-generation business, Balise Motor Sales, has been serving the New England area for over 100 years.

Founded by Paul E. Balise in 1919 in a small backyard garage that later led to the opening of Hatfield Garage, which served a Chevrolet dealership, the company has grown to be one of New England’s largest new and used automobile retailers and one of the top automotive groups in the country, maintaining 14 automotive brands.

The wholesale parts operation boasts its value as a “one stop shop” with an immense inventory for collision and mechanical needs, fast delivery and top-tier customer support. However, when asked what Balise’s main focus is, Balise Group Parts Director Joseph Robertson said it’s all about community.

“Jeb Balise, president and CEO of Balise, does a lot with the community,” explains Robertson “He likes to give back and do what he can to help the communities in which we do business, such as Square One Early Childhood Education Center, United Way of Pioneer Valley, Mercy Medical Center, and the Boys and Girls Club of West Springfield – just to name a few.”

Balise promotes a philosophy of supporting civic events and community services. They strive to help make their communities a nice place in which to live and do business and list their company values as building a better future for their customers, neighbors and associates. As a longtime MABA Double Black Diamond Sponsor in the association’s Vendor Affinity Program, Balise has proven time and time again that they are not only in the automotive business, but in the business of making their industry and community better.

“I think MABA’s support has allowed us to be as successful as we are. Not only does it provide some marketing, but it also gives back and helps the business as a whole,” shares Robertson. “We truly believe in the automotive body business. It’s an integral part of everyone’s life, including everyone in the community. Our customers are the same customers who go into the shops, and we want to be able to support them, even if it’s through a second party. We want to make sure we’re there for our customers, no matter what their needs may be.”

Balise and MABA are both committed to serving the New England area. From their call center to locations all around the Western Massachusetts and Cape Cod areas, Connecticut and Rhode Island, Balise is devoted to providing the best automotive and customer service possible.

“Everyone between locations works great as a team,” reports Robertson. “We’re always going to have hiccups here and there, especially at the volume of work that we have. So, it gets a little chaotic at times, but that’s the business, and that’s why we like it.”

When asked how working with MABA has helped with this high volume of work, Robertson responded, “MABA’s a tremendous support. I don’t know that we’d be as successful as we are without it. The association has done a great job throughout the years of dealing with the insurance companies and advocating at the government level. They give us props for our involvement, including supporting the golf tournament that MABA puts up every year.

“You can’t even start to put [that support] into a monetary value,” he added. “We get phone calls every day, mentioning that they appreciate that we’re part of MABA…It’s definitely integral to our business model to stay involved with all the positive work they do.”

Balise is a large operation with a multi-million dollar inventory and over a dozen automotive brands associated with their name, but their dedication to their customers and community make it seem like a local, down-to-earth company.

Robertson spoke a bit about Balise’s goals towards loyalty and compassion. “We pride ourselves in our service. We’ve always wanted to be available for any issues that may arise for our customers and within our communities. We try to address them immediately. We strive for perfection, and we hope to get as close to that as we can compared to our competitors.”
